Rohan Bhattacharjee

Bhattacharjee was born in Bangalore, India. He grew up in Kolkata, before returning to Christ University, Bangalore, to earn his B.A. in History, Economics, and Political Science. He speaks Bengali, Hindi, English, and broken Sylhetti. 

Bhattacharjee is a licensed U.S. attorney. He has earned his Juris Doctor (J.D.) and Master of Public Administration (M.P.A.) from Syracuse University College of Law and the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, focusing his training on the intersection of law, public policy, and technology. Upon graduation and bar passage, he served as non-partisan Counsel to the Washington State Senate, where he drafted legislation and provided legal analysis to the Senate Health and Long-Term Care Committee and the Senate Local Government Committee. During his time in the Senate, he independently authored dozens of Senate Bill Reports, which are a part of the public record and serve as official (and non-partisan) analysis of legislation introduced in the upper chamber. 

Bhattacharjee has dabbled in the data privacy and AI regulatory spheres, with prior internship experiences across a full-service law firm, a Fortune 500 cybersecurity corporation, a Central New York-based healthcare provider, and the New York State Science and Technology Law Center. He is an IAPP Westin Scholar Awardee, among a select group of law students who exhibit potential as "future leaders of data protection." Bhattacharjee also has wide ranging interests in renewable technologies, having worked on projects at the Dynamic Sustainability Lab, Syracuse University, on the adoption of Carbon Capture Sequestration (CCS) technologies. 

Bhattacharjee takes the greatest satisfaction, however, in having served as a Lead Writer for three white papers on international criminal law, one of which was cited by the EU Parliament Research Services. The paper explored avenues under international criminal law which would pierce the veil of head of state immunity for crimes against aggression and hold senior government officials accountable.
